5 Solutions When Life Feels Hopeless

Nobody is immune to times of despair and hopelessness. People reach rock bottom every day. It could be because they have chosen a path that led them there, or it was seemingly forced upon them by some sort of external circumstance. Whatever the precipitating events that lead to situations of hopelessness are unfortunately all too common. Addictions, tragedies, failures in relationships, deteriorating health, and old age all come with their own forms of hopelessness.
Don’t allow yourself to slip into despair, depression, or loneliness. In this article, we will look at five solutions when life feels hopeless.

Identify Your Feelings
Hopelessness can make you feel heavy, dull, and gray. The worse you feel, the more hopeless you’ll feel. Try to separate your feelings from general misery into distinct experiences. Are you just stressed or tired? Have you tried relaxation techniques or more sleep without feeling better? It’s time to recognize and label all your specific emotions. For instance, if you are feeling unhappy, you may find that this is caused by loneliness or annoyance.
Keep a journal of your feelings. Prayer and meditation can also help you acknowledge any hidden feeling.

Engage In Problem- Solving
Hopelessness has a way of making you believe that things won’t get better. The truth is, there is always something you can do. You can try and solve a problem or change your feelings towards the problem. Take time and think about the potential solutions to the problem you are facing. All the solutions don’t necessarily have to be great ideas.
If you are not in a position to solve the problem, consider changing how you feel about the specific problem.

Preserve Your Energy
Choose to take care of yourself. This helps you regain control from overthinking about hopelessness. It also boosts your energy and gives you a fresh perspective on overcoming your challenges. Self-care includes eating well, staying active, and getting enough rest. Take breaks where necessary and avoid burnout. Make time for your hobbies and activities you love. This helps you find balance.

Prioritize The Relationships That Matter
Most times, when we are struggling, a trusted friend can see things from a different perspective. Reach out to any friend you trust or a close family member. Meaningful relationships have suffered a blow during the pandemic. It takes a little more effort to maintain a friendship and keep it thriving. Create time for long chats with your closest friend or sibling. Talking through your situation will lighten your burden.

Engage A Mental Health Professional.
Even though hopelessness is not a mental health diagnosis, it can impact your health and well-being. If it persists, hopelessness might cause a lack of sleep, appetite or lead to depression. Talking with a therapist can help you uncover the causes of the problem you are facing. You’ll also be able to explore new ways to address your situation.

The Bottom Line
When you face a hopeless situation, it’s easy to resign, saying, “There’s nothing I can do.”
Only God knows what the future holds. Things can take a significant turn in a day. Don’t give up and give in to hopelessness. Take care of your well-being, talk to people, meditate and pray. Most importantly, show yourself compassion. You have room to make mistakes and learn from them.
